AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
Damn you Tomas and your over-engineered many nested divs and your absolute positions and z-indexes!!! Curse you for your evil css!!!
More frustrations
My head might explode in a minute. Thinking about so many things, but not really able to do anything about them right now.
We need to sort out our life insurance stuff, which is more expensive because our new jobs don't have such good sick pay schemes, and GG is digging her heels in about it, but the broker woman keeps phoning me, and I really don't know what to say/do. I've heard nothing from the hospital about my hand appointment. I'm in the middle of switching bank accounts so everything is up in the air with that. Humph.
We spent last Saturday helping GG's brother with his new house. We started by ripping out the kitchen, which was going quite well until I managed to nick the main incoming water pipe removing the cupboard base (it must have been installed before the end of the pipe was put on because it was just too close to have been installed afterwards!), and then spent the next hour and a half holding the pipe pinched together waiting for the plumber. Everyone tried telling me it happens and many other people have done it, but it didn't make me feel any less stupid.
Anyway, the plumber came and sorted it (not cheaply but at least I've found him a plumber - he needed one for fitting the appliances and the bathroom!) and next on the list were the light fittings in the lounge....again, a small lack of knowledge became a big headache. I did eventually get the light back so that I left it in no worse state than when I arrived, but I wasted another 2 hours doing it! So, having cried on GG and then GG's mum, I felt properly stupid!! Cricket Sunday was a write off, and I'm completely knackered.
Can't seem to get into anything at work this week - still trying to come up with something for this intranet problem, but my boss still wants a quick fix rather than something that really works, so I'm stuck looking at this Drupal CMS that I don't like the interface of, and can't get it to do what I want...harrumph. Trouble is, my boss is out for most of the day so I kinda need something to show for my day when he comes back.
The real problem is that I'd rather be at my house working on some of our DIY projects, or at GG's bruv's working on his kitchen, or anywhere that doesn't involve work really!!! *sigh* Anyone got any ideas??
Frustrations
AAAARRRGGHHH! Tourettes Boy is louder than ever today. He's shouting about base hrefs and acatalogs at the top of his voice across the room at our boss...well, I say across the room...it's all of 2 metres!!! SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHH!
I attended the management meeting this morning to talk through my ideas for timesheets - I've been charged with making sure they get filled in accurately and promptly - and ended up being asked to come up with a full-on spec for our business support system!! This is fine. I have some good ideas, I'm good at organising data (and stuff in general) and I like a challenge.
Frustratingly, I talked through some of my ideas with my boss very briefly, and he pretty much pissed on all of them! We have several programmes that do several tasks, including one written by one of our own developers - to my mind, it makes most sense to get the custom made one to do everything....rather than having different programmes duplicating effort...doesn't it?
Went to the doctor's this morning about my ear that's been blocked since I had a cold three weeks ago, and apparently I need to hang my head over a bowl of Olbas with a towel over my head, and then dangle my head off the end of my bed face down!!! I also asked about the weird blue thing between my thumb and forefinger on my hand that I've had since I was about 10 (I think?!), and he's referring me to a skin specialist at Brighton General...joy...
Rubbish
This week I am being mostly rubbish at my job....I spent 7 hours yesterday working on some product references only for them to break on import, cause "data truncated" error messages to appear and for me to have to roll back to the snapshot I had from the start of the day, effectively cancelling my 7 hours' work!!
Today I'm fighting the same thing, and when I get bored with that I've got some CSS I need to fix in order to get it to play nicely with Internet Explorer 6....humph.
Still, at least it's only a half day today. Then I get to go wave a light in people's faces, then be patronised by a load of blokes cos I can't quite lift as much as them during the get out.....can you tell I'm really happy at the moment???!!!
I want a job like GG's....she spent all yesterday afternoon being paid to play computer games!!! no fair....
Should've stayed in bed
The subject of this post is true both of yesterday and today.
Considering I played cricket at the Oval yesterday, it tells you something when the highlight of my day was seeing GG's brother's new house and thinking about all the potential for exercising my DIY skills on his behalf!!!
The day started badly. I woke at 6.30am to the painful reminder of why I hate being a girl, together with the ongoing sore throat, male-voice-choir-bass issue, and at that point apparently I was a very white shade of pale with a slightly waxy look! I got up and made tea, took some ibuprofen and went back to sleep thinking my day was over before it began. I woke up again 45 minutes later feeling much better, so I dragged GG out of bed to get going. I called the coach and said I wasn't 100%, and I was going to be late but I still wanted to be involved in the day. I was supposed to be in London at 9.30am - we left Brighton at 9am! Arrived at the ground at 10.30ish, no warm up, to be told I was playing, and we were fielding.
I won't go into details about the game. My bowling was pants, I fielded ok but didn't really have much of an impact. And my batting was even worse. Not quite as bad as the first ball duck last year, but still a duck. And we lost by 2 runs.
So, thoroughly pissed off with the cricket, we trundled round to J's newly acquired house in Kennington. The first thing to hit me was what a bargain our three bedroom house in Brighton was at £172k 2 years ago. J paid £330k for his "compact" 2 bedroom house "in need of modernisation" to use the agent speak! The "I love Jesus" sticker in the window was the first sign that things might be a bit weird. The orange paint and wrinkled fake wood laminate flooring peeling at the edges was the 2nd clue. The rather worse-for-wear kitchen and bathroom were the 3rd, and the smell was the 4th. I think J is quite fortunate that he doesn't actually have to live there yet! You have to wonder about the people who have just moved out....apparently they'd lived there for 18 years...did they just not notice things falling apart??!!
The kitchen and bathroom both need entirely redoing, which could be fun. GG offered my tiling and kitchen design services, and flooring and painting too! Shame I don't know anything about plumbing really (and that it's so far away). The rest of the house will probably be alright with some elbow grease and paint, and new carpets upstairs will help. GG also offered my carpet laying skills!
Looking round reminded me how much fun it is to have projects like that. We still have lots of things we could do in our house if we had slightly more time/available cash. Which reminds me, I must update my house jobs list....I'm sure some of my target timescales have passed already....
Bad timing
I am sick. Hard to say exactly what with, but it's been getting steadily getting worse over the past few days. Wednesday I had a bit of a sore throat. By Thursday, my voice had dropped half an octave, and I had a blocked right ear. By Friday, I was sounding like a bass in a male voice choir, my ear was so blocked it was making me dizzy and I was feeling generally muggy so I stayed home. Today, I'm properly growling every time I talk with a tickly cough, my head feels stuffed with cotton wool and I'm all shivery...
All of this is very bad timing as I'm supposed to be playing for Surrey in a county match against Somerset at the Oval tomorrow. Boo hiss to being sick.
Wow...and oops!
Well, it's been 3 weeks or so since my last blog entry...that's what the cricket season does for you! I've been away so long, 20six has had a complete redesign!! I like it...although I'm not sure about the cheesy cartoon characters in the header!
So what have I been up to? I've done the lighting for a show, and although my design wasn't as good as I'd hoped, the director seemed happy enough. It was sort of a nothing show to light really, no spectacular effects or scenes to light. I've been dodging rain showers trying to play cricket - scored 40 in the first game and took 5 wickets, and scored 46 yesterday and took 2 wickets and a catch...not bad. Still not playing as well as I should be...oh well.
And the rest of the time has been spent at work...boo! Oh, and we went to a wedding on Saturday, and booked our next holiday in Florida...woo hoo! Just got to save up lots of money to spend!! So all in all, you've not really missed much while I've been away....
